The Harvest Programs

Including Growing, Cooking, Preserving, Transporting, Distributing and Recovering Food

Our Story

It all started with a Food Bank

The longest running existing program of Community Services.

Then we had the opportunity to start growing food at some of our sites and that inspired the growing part of our programs.

Then the Community Gardens in the Burgoyne Valley opened up new potential with our one acre Harvest Farm. Soon we were distributing food through the Harvest Food Bank, Community Fridges and various meal programs within the organization and its approximately 30 different service areas.

With the enthusiastic support of local grocers, Second Harvest, the Food Recovery program was started in 2017 significantly increasing the amount of food brought in. We started the Harvest Kitchen which used ingredients from Harvest Farm, Second Harvest and local grocers to provide meals for the In From the Cold Emergency Shelter and other programs.

In 2018 we opened the Harvest Kitchen Cafe, a social enterprise cafe using ingredients from our programs with all profits being redirected back into the Harvest Programs.
