Please Consider Donating

Harvest Programs Rely on Community Support to feed our community

Because of the interconnected nature of the Harvest programs, the value of your donation is amplified.

A donation to Harvest helps reduce food insecurity for anyone in need including low income families and seniors. It provides seniors with the meals and check-ins that could assist them to stay in their own homes. Your contribution helps people facing homelessness or struggling with mental health issues to connect with outreach services to support them. You will also be supporting local agriculture, creating vocational training opportunities and reducing the burden of food on the island’s waste disposal systems.

Other ways to consider donating:

Gifts other than cash are welcome. “Gifts In Kind” (donations of goods, services or property) may also be accepted if the items benefit service delivery. These donations do not qualify for charitable donation tax receipts.

A Lasting Legacy.  Legacy gifts provide long-term support that will ensure we are able to continue our work of strengthening people, families and our community not only for today, but on into the coming years. Legacy gifts are expressions of your values and hopes for the future. There are many ways to leave a legacy gift:

A bequest in your will. This may be a specific gift such as cash, securities, RRSPs, or the residual of the estate after loved ones are provided for,

Life insurance policy. A new or existing policy naming SSICS as the beneficiary,

Gifts of securities. Current tax rules provide a great advantage to donating publicly listed securities,

An endowment fund. Funds may be directed to our general endowment fund or one named in honour of you, your family or loved ones.

We would be pleased to discuss other donation options. If you are planning to make a legacy gift to the Harvest Programs,  please contact us at Salt Spring Island Community Services to ensure your gift will fulfill your intentions and provide you with optimum tax benefits.
